Kings Lynn Civis Society Norfolk

Our Work

We seek to influence local and county authorities, property owners and developers, planning decisions and strategy. We are consulted on a wide range of issues affecting the built environment and members of our executive committee sit on several panels contributing to decisions made about King’s Lynn. We comment upon architecture and design through the planning process and campaign for road and traffic improvements. We think the visual image of the town is an important element in giving the community confidence in its current prosperity and prosperous future.

We have brought listed status to unprotected buildings and keep a watchful eye on those that are listed and report concerns to the borough’s conservation office.

The King’s Lynn Civic Society is a critical friend to our local authorities, occasionally in conflict, and a very vocal and active pressure group when we have to defend our town and amenities against unnecessary and ill thought out cuts and changes.

The King’s Lynn Civic Society is a Statutory Consultee to the Borough Council.  We are consulted on a variety of projects and reports. The Core Strategy for example which sets the agenda for the needs and aspirations of the Borough Council in the future.   We would welcome a Town Council for King's Lynn.  Currently only Lynn has no elected representation apart from the Borough Council while Hunstanton and Downham Market have Town Councils and all the villages have Parish Councils.
